Beauregard Mirouze, an exceptional
terroir
Chateau Beauregard Mirouze has been in
the family since 1881. This Domaine of 350ha is situated on the hillside north
of the massif de Fontfroide. There is one plot of 50ha surrounded by 300 ha of
garrigue and pines.
It has its own microclimate, ideal for
ripening the grapes.
The area north of the massif de
Fontfroide is cold and dry. The Cistercian monks were not wrong when they named
their famous abbey Fontfroide. The vines are influenced by the Tramontane, an
often violent wind, always cold and dry. This weather system ensures a
progressive development of the grapes which take their time to mature.
The soil made up of sandstone and slightly acidic with elements of clay is deep but not very fertile. It drains well naturally. For the vine to reach the nutrients in the soil the roots grow deep into the heart of this terroir. This acidic soil combines sugar, polyhenons and acides which give balance to the grapes and produce wines of quality, grands crus.
