Gaussan 1
Situated 15 kms from Narbonne lies the ancient  Cistercian Chateau (13th century) of the Abbey of Fontfroide which has become the Monastery Notre-Dame de Gaussan: the benedictine monks who came from the Abbey of Fontgombault (Indre) in 1994 look after the small vineyard around its buildings and which is made up of Maccabeu, Syrah and Grenache grape varieties.

The Wine

AOC Corbieres, Monastery of Gaussan
Soil: chalky clay and stoney.

Varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Maccabeu. It produces less than 40 hectolitres per ha.
Vinification maceration using whole red grapes.

Red 2002: deep red in colour, flavour of berries, blackberries, powerful and warm.

Red 2003: pretty red in colour with hint of ruby. Strong in character with a spicy bouquet, Cumin, cloves. Fine, long flavour and well structured. Can be kept for up to 5 years.

Rose 2004: fresh and pleasant flavour. To be drunk within year of bottling.
