- the Chateau Aumedes
- the Domaine de l’Ancien Prieure de St Amans
- the Domaine de St Maurice
Six generations have worked these three estates using Carignan a Mediterranean grape variety famous for providing the full body of the different wines of the Corbieres.
The aromas are a result of the coming together of the Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault varieties with more than a hint of the wild garrigue.
The soil too plays an important part:
The Domaine of St Maurice lies 4 km from Bizanet in the ramparts of the hills of Fontfroide and borders the stream of the same name. The soil is made up of a sandy, sandstone mix which produces wines that are easy to drink. The red wines are well appreciated all year round particularly with barbeques and with cheese. The Domaine also produces a very fine rose ideal for those summer dishes.
AOC Corbières
Terroir de Fontfroide
Soil; sandy, sandstone cold from Fontfroide
Location is south facing situated in a wind tunnel at the foot of the massif of Fontfroide.
The wine is made up of three varieties: 50% Carignan for the body, 30% Syrah provides the aromas and 20% Grenache noir for its roundness and elegance.
Vinification follows a method by which only the grapes are picked and used. The varieties are vinified separately and only come together after pressing. After nine months the wine is bottled.
Lively red robe with aromas from the garrigue and ripe fruits with a round mouth full of charm.
This wine goes well with barbeques and white meat.
